The Good, The Bad and The Queen - Leeds Irish Centre 29th January 2007

This gig will not make my top 20 this year, average at best. Support was provided by stilt walkers, jugglers, a music hall comedian and a bluegrass band! The band then rolled on at 21:30 and played the album start to finish, plus two encores. I found it dull, dull, dull. The redeeming factor was seeing Paul Simonen (ex Clash bassist) on stage. There were some good Sandinista! style drum / bass sounds but the actual songs did nothing for me. How this is currently #2 in album charts is beyond me.

Neil Young's live album tracklisting revealed

Neil Young's has unveiled the tracklisting for his forthcoming live album 'Live At Massey Hall'. The album, released on March 12, was recorded in Toronto in 1971 and features a DVD which features footage of the show minus three tracks.

Young said: "This is the album that should have come out between 'After The Gold Rush' and 'Harvest'. "David Briggs, my producer, was adamant that this should be the record, but I was very excited about the takes we got on 'Harvest' and wanted 'Harvest' out. David disagreed. As I listen to this today, I can see why."

'Archives Volume 1' an 8CD/2 DVD boxset chronicling Young's career between 1963 and 1972, will be released in the autumn.

The tracklisting for the album is:

'On The Way Home'
'Tell Me Why'
'Old Man'
'Journey Through The Past'
'Helpless'
'Love In Mind'
'A Man Needs A Maid/ Heart of Gold Suite'
'Cowgirl In The Sand'
'Don't Let It Bring You Down'
'There's A World'
'Bad Fog Of Loneliness'
'The Needle and the Damage Done'
'Ohio'
'See the Sky About to Rain'
'Down By The River'
'Dance Dance Dance'
'I Am A Child'

Evidence of surfing

Well not exactly evidence, I'm only carrying a surfboard. You'll have to trust me that I did manage to surf on this day. This was from Digger's stag trip / wedding out in Califonia in 1997.

Another old photo I found online. I think we were watching the Smashing Pumkins at the time.

Remember this?

Found this online from the very first Summit website. No idea what the Easter Island heads were all about ... hmmm maybe Heavy Rock?

Neil Young Archives Performance Series

The second release in the Neil Young Archives Performance Series is from Massey Hall in Toronto 1971. The original set lists for the two shows were:

19/01/71, Massey Hall (Early show), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

On The Way Home / Tell Me Why / Old Man / Journey Through The Past / Cowgirl In The Sand / Love In Mind / Helpless / Love In Mind / A Man Needs A Maid/Heart Of Gold / Don't Let It Bring You Down / There's A World / Bad Fog Of Loneliness / I Am A Child / The Needle And The Damage Done / Ohio / See The Sky About To Rain / Dance, Dance,

19/01/71 Massey Hall (Late show), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

On The Way Home / Tell Me Why / Old Man / Journey Through The Past / Helpless / Love In Mind / A Man Needs A Maid/Heart Of Gold / Cowgirl In The Sand / Don't Let It Bring You Down / There's A World / Bad Fog Of Loneliness / The Needle And The Damage Done / Ohio / See The Sky About To Rain / Down By The River / Dance, Dance, Dance / I Am A Child

I've no idea whether the release will be a complete show or an edit of both shows. It may also of course be a cut of the best tracks, similar to the Crazy Horse Fillmore show from 1970. Either way it's cool that Neil's finally got his finger out and cranked the archive release programme into gear. Strong rumours also are flying around that the first instalment of the archive box set will be out later in the year. Currently being touted as a 8 CD set with 2 DVD's, mainly containing unreleased material. Can't wait!

New Guitar

I 've wanted a Gibson Les Paul Standard for most of my adult life. I've never been able to afford one, but a recent pay rise changed all that. This is the ultimate guitar for a Neil Young fanatic like me. Through my Matamp amps it sounds awesome. It's made me think that I really need to get a band back together.

Exams!

It's six days until I sit my ITIL Managers exams over at the University of Manchester. Panic is just about to set in, not that I should panic I just missed a dsitinction on my mock exam, but and this is a big but, I got the feeling the markers at the training company but being a little generous. Not to worry, I will just have to make sure I know the case study inside out and have learnt all the generics I need for each discipline. Fun eh?

Glastonbury photo's

This is what makes all the bloody hassles to get Glastonbury tickets worthwhile.

Old Blindsummit gig poster

I just found this old poster lurking on my c: drive, made me laugh. This was our third gig and I remember this one as a bit of a nightmare. I could be wrong but in my memory we didn't play that well and I seem to recall we were all pretty disappointed afterwards. For me our best gigs were in my garage at the old house, which was a top laugh and the first gig at the Pack Horse in Headingley.
Great days.
